Prayers for the Benefice

Each week we will be joining our Baptist friends in praying for a local road or street.  This week it is Flowerdale Road in Watchet and Kebby's Farm Close in Williton.  Pray for God’s blessing on those who live there.

SAFEGUARDING

Once again, we would like to say thank you to Sara for the huge amount of (often thankless) work she has undertaken on our behalf over the last few years. Whilst we might not like being chased for our DBS checks and finding time to undertake training, it is an important part of our church life; potentially protecting ourselves, as well as others. Whilst Jackie has not been here very long she has still made a significant contribution, so thank you Jackie.

We now need to find one (or two) new volunteer safeguarding officers. Although Sara and Jackie are willing to continue until our APCMs, it will take time to recruit and train the right person.

A note from the latest  Diocesan Training Policy and Strategy, which might encourage you to think about the role…

“The Church has an ambition to make a paradigm shift in its relationship with safeguarding. This requires recognition that safeguarding needs to move away from something that is in some respects external/imposed upon the Church, to something that flows from within the soul of the Church. Safeguarding is at the centre of our faith, in our practice, in our worship, in our praying, and in our believing.”

If you are interested in applying, please speak to one of your churchwardens.

The Collect
Almighty God, in the birth of your Son
you have poured on us the new light of your incarnate Word, and shown us the fullness of your love:
help us to walk in his light and dwell in his love
that we may know the fullness of his joy;
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.                 Amen.

THE SECOND SUNDAY OF CHRISTMAS

'Walk in His light and dwell in His love'

During the twelve days of the Christmas festival, the Church celebrates the ‘Incarnation’: the Son of God became a human being – Jesus Christ, ‘one of us’. The light (or ‘truth’) of God and the love (or ‘grace’) of God flowed into the world through him. Today’s Collect prays that we may learn to walk in that light and dwell in that love, which leads to the fullness of joy.

Updated Coronavirus Advice

Following the recent concerning news regarding the spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus, we have looked at the increased risk to the congregations and have decided the following measures to keep you all safe.

  1. Face coverings should be worn at all times, including whilst singing. Although singing is an exempt activity, it carries an increased risk of the spread of droplets and aerosols.
  2. Please remember to use the hand sanitisers provided.
  3. We will be leaving the doors open again so you may wish to wear something warm!
  4. Please try to maintain social distancing in the pews. Perhaps using every other pew?
  5. Please remember the one way system when going up to the altar for Communion.
